I (Matthew Aslanis, Founder) been training martial arts since I was 5 years old — from judo to Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and eventually MMA. Competing, training, living it. All I wanted growing up was to become a professional fighter.
Back in high school, my days started before sunrise. I’d hit the gym, go to school, work, then head straight back to training. That was the routine — every day, no excuses. I was obsessed with it.
But everything shifted when I moved from a packed Gracie BJJ academy — with over 400 students — to a much smaller MMA gym. I loved the smaller classes and one-on-one attention… but it was clear the business was struggling.
The energy was different. The mats were quieter. And I remember the owner telling me he was thinking about selling the school. That hit me. This place had incredible coaches and a powerful culture — but no systems, no marketing, and no consistent growth.
At the time, I had already started running ads for local businesses: medspas, chiropractors, dentists. So I offered to help. I told him I’d run a few campaigns to get more students through the door.
